The Chinese dragon is a mythical creature which has been a potent symbol of auspicious power in Chinese folklore and art. There are "Nine Classical Types" of dragons as depicted in Chinese art and literature, nine being an auspicious number in Chinese culture. These are: The Celestial Dragon, the Spiritual Dragon, the Dragon of Hidden Treasures, the Underground Dragon, the Winged Dragon, the Horned Dragon, the Coiling Dragon, the Yellow Dragon and the Dragon King. Our calligrapher, Tai Oi Yee, was born in a place called the Nine Dragon Pond (Kowloon Tong ) in Hong Kong, and thus feels a special bond to the dragon.
